August 24, 2013, Steve and Anita
Anita and Steve have moved their Sirius to Port Rowan (Lake Erie) and
invited us down for the day. There are very few sailboats in the inner
bay because of the shallow draft, we only saw 2 or 3 others. Very nice
marina, not crowded. They are the only sail boaters but the power
boaters are very friendly. We set out for Pottohawk and of course the
wind was against us. We finally made it, and I actually went in the water despite my Bahamatized
(Anita's word) blood. Didn't last - too cold, not salty nor
sandy, what's with that? We (Steve) BBQ'd, watched the sun go down and
just as we hauled anchor we were inundated - yes inundated, deluged,
overrun, engulfed, bombarded, beseiged by a million bugs. Steve's
sweater was almost immediately encased in these tiny nonbiting things
and Gerry had to clean them off his glasses a few times. Anita and I
beat a hasty retreat down below. Was well after dark when we returned
but it was a fun outing, well worth the bugs. We'll be back and
hopefully remember to take more photos of the area!
